GOOD BYE

Friday, November 05, 2004

I wrote about Ropa my good friend since childhood on September 8th.
Yesterday, November 4th 2004, he passed away. He succumbed to complications brought about by hypertension, diabetes and coronary problems.

He will be buried today (Friday) in Dungun, hopefully by the side of his mother. People say it is blessed to die in Ramadhan and on a Thursday evening. May Allah place him among the places of the faithfuls.

To those who can, please read the fatihah for him. The rest, read about him in Risible Ropa . He would want you to smile and laugh. That's how I would think of him. That's how all my classmates would remember him. He would be sorely missed.

Goodbye Ropa. I am not able to send you to your grave like a good friend should but I have said many prayers for you.

We didn't get to fish and eat jambu.

  • I'm greatly saddened to hear of the passing of your friend Ropa. I only knew him from your blog, but still feel it a great loss as he reminded me of a man - also deceased - I knew in Trengganu who lived at the foot of Bukit Putri, who was just like him. It's a good man who goes in Ramadhan and on a Thursday afternoon too. May Allah reward him with Jannah.

  • Ropa's story reminds me of this quote -

I love the man that can smile in trouble, that can gather strength from distress, and grow brave by reflection. 'Tis the business of little minds to shrink, but he whose heart is firm, and whose conscience approves his conduct, will pursue his principles unto death.
    --Thomas Paine

May he rest in peace and be there among the blessed. Al-fatihah.

  • Innalillahi wainnailaihirojiun, takziah to Ropa and his family. I loved your entry about him - especially the bit about putting a zip at the cranium.

Moga dia berada di dalam golongan orang2 beriman, insya-Allah.

  • pak ku, your blog about your buddy ropa is a wonderful tribute. he sounded like someone who, when life dealt him lemons, would simply use a few for asam in his sambal belacan, perah some on ikan pari bakar and turned what's left into lemonade.

thank you for sharing ropa's memory with us.

    al fatihah!
