MALEVOLENT MAILS

Monday, December 06, 2004

I received more than my share of malevolent mails in my Inbox lately. Besides getting emails with viruses attached and the usual Nigerian offers I also received offers for cheap Cialis and Italian-made Rolex watches. There were no more mails for penis enlargement. I guess everyone concerned had reached the optimum size and the company couldn't get repeat business. They are praying that the slimming pills that are currently in their spams will cause some shrinkages.

I got the virus-laden emails from various addresses including some from institutions and government department. I don't think they have anything personal against me. Probably some computers were infected by worms and these worms used addresses found in those computers to send emails with virus. Maybe those computers had my email address too in them. Do scan your pc periodically for viruses and worms.

As for the Cialis or Viagra pills, I do not need them. I may be old but I am not dead yet. I try hard to be a polite person, so I am sure I will rise to any occasion. For the Rolex, Italian-made or otherwise, I can easily get a Rolex right here in Malaysia and it will be far cheaper but just as fake.

The most malevolent mails were those that informed me I have won the lottery ranging from USD 1 million to 1 million Euros. I don't remember buying any tickets. Apparently that didn't stop me from winning the 1st prize 6 times last week. I think it is cruel to tease a cash-strapped old man like me.

If Mimi, my youngest daughter were to depend on me, she wouldn't have a birthday party this year. Her mother somehow managed a small sit-down lunch for family members and Mimi's friends at Kelab Darul Ehsan last Saturday. I got to invite only ONE friend (and his wife). During the third course (lemon chicken, I think) one guest who had earlier confirmed not coming, came. We could not set up another table or even set another place because the table was already crowded. So I had to give up my seat. I then became a Roving Relative.

I enjoyed watching my grandchildren eating. They were all enjoying the lunch except Ihsan. Ihsan enjoyed the birthday red eggs. I shelled one for him. Ihsan refused to let me shell the next egg. He wanted to shell it himself using his chopsticks. Another grandson, Aiman who is two years old, got a pair of chopsticks too. He used them to tap my backside. Aiman will make a good boss or a drummer.

I am digressing. Let me go check my mail.

  • Playing the drums seems like a lot of hard work. I think you should really consider taking away one of the chopsticks from little Aiman. That way, he can become a conductor -- lesser work, better pay, recognition, etc.
