MERDEKA MUSINGS

Wednesday, September 01, 2004
I found this yesterday in a NOKIA ad in The Star:

Our skyscrapers are getting taller
but tempers are growing shorter

We are acquiring more knowledge
but practising less courtesy

We are slotting in more meetings
but finding less time for the family

We are making more profits
but sharing less jokes

We are always talking
But hardly listening

Comments anyone?

  • Very perceptive of Nokia that... And yes, I think Malaysians are getting increasingly caught up in the material world that the other chunks of it are getting forgotten. Then again... I also think it's a just a phase we're going through as a nation. We're still a bit 'jakun' about our new found wealth and more than a little bit paranoid that it'll go away as fast as it came... so our grip on it all is a still quite vice-like (no pun intended). Give us a few more years to get comfortable with our money and soon enough people will ease-up, relax and concentrate on the important things again.

  • unfortunatey, Nokia is not very original.
This was taken from something George Carlin (the comedian) wrote.

We are globaly caught up in the material world, not nearly as small a problem as it being just a Malaysian consern, easing up is a definate plus ;-) who knows what treasures we can find in each other if invest quality time here and there with the ones we love...
